As we begin a new spring semester at the University of Southern Maine, I want to extend a warm welcome to every student, whether you are returning to campus, studying online, or joining us for the first time. The spring semester – indeed, the entire enterprise of education – always brings with it a sense of renewal and hope for the future.Â
As the semester begins, I recognize that many students in our community are feeling the weight of international, national, and local events, and there are many different opinions about current issues – as there should be in a university community. I encourage you to engage in conversation with others and to approach these conversations with respect and care.Â
Please take advantage of the many resources and communities that are here to support your success and care for your well-being. I also encourage you to use your voice and let us know what your hopes, expectations, and successes are. The student newspaper plays a vital role in fostering dialogue and reflection, and I am grateful for the way it helps tell the story of our university through your experiences.Â
Thank you for all you contribute to the University of Southern Maine.Â
With best wishes for a strong and successful semester,Â
Jacqueline Edmondson
