Bracket/Event Overview:
March Madness is a yearly event that highlights D1 Men’s and Women’s basketball. People everywhere are trying to craft their perfect bracket that will predict what will happen in the tournaments. There has never been a perfect bracket in Men’s or Women’s history. The chances of having a perfect bracket through all 63 games are 1 in 9.2 quintillion. Picking the “perfect” bracket is so difficult because no matter what you’re seeded, you have a chance at upsetting another team. March Madness is known for it’s buzzer beater finishes and insane upsets by low-seeded teams. So the tournament is completely up for grabs, and there is no clear-cut winner.
The Women’s tournament went from March 18th to April 5th, and a verified perfect bracket only lasted through 48 out of 63 games. This bracket was registered to a 13-year-old boy from Pennsylvania. His bracket outlasted 40 million others until it was finally broken during the sweet 16.
The Men’s tournament went from March 17th to April 6th, and for the Men’s brackets, a perfect bracket only lasted through 44 out of 63 games. The person who created this bracket remains unknown, but their bracket busted when Tennessee upset Virginia in the second round.
Women’s Results:
In the 2026 March Madness tournament, the number one seed UCLA became the National Champions after beating the number one seed South Carolina with an ending score of 79-51.
For UCLA, this was the first time in franchise history to ever win a March Madness National Championship. They finished the season 31-1, and made history by winning regular-season and conference titles.
Some other things to highlight for the Women’s bracket include: South Carolina’s performance to get to the National Championship was nothing short of impressive. In the Final Four, SC broke UConn’s 54-game winning streak. While UConn was the defending National Champions from 2025, their streak was sadly ended, and they weren’t given a chance to defend their title in the championship. The Final Four included all number-one-seeded teams, but there was only one champion among them, and that rang true for the UCLA Bruins.
Men’s Results:
Michigan defeated UConn in the 2026 Men’s National Championship 69-63. Making this their first title since 1989. This matchup featured a dominant defensive performance by the Michigan Wolverines against the UConn Huskies, who were looking to gain their third title in four seasons. Overall, Michigan finished with the win in a dominant tournament by controlling the tempo of the games and overcoming UConn’s late in the game efforts.
Some other teams to highlight that made dominant progress were: Tennessee, Arizona, Illinois, and St. John’s. For Tennessee, they made it to the Elite Eight, while creating some upsets along the way as the sixth seed, until they were finally taken out by Michigan. As for Arizona, they made a dominant performance all the way into the Final Four, but also got beaten out by Michigan, so they weren’t able to advance to the championship. Illinois also had a great run up to the Final Four, but eventually got beaten out by runner-up UConn. And lastly, St. John’s only made it to the Sweet Sixteen, but they gave Duke a run for their money. While almost beating them, St. John’s lost only by 5 points, causing them to be knocked out of the tournament.
