The women’s tennis team put up a fight against the newly formed University of New England women’s tennis team on brand-new courts Thursday afternoon. In a newly changed rule, doubles matches now award teams one point for the overall winner. Of the three doubles matches, the Huskies took the point with wins from doubles team one, Alyssa Conley, sophomore, and Abby Emerson, senior, and doubles team two, Payton Thibodeau, freshman, and Hanni Johnson, fifth-year senior. Displaying killer serves and powerful hits, the match was Emerson’s first of the season after an injury. Thibodeau and Johnson went on to play grueling singles matches against UNE’s Nora Hill and Sofia Salcedo Ladaga. Both matches ended in a tie-breaker with Thibodeau fighting through a 24-shot rally to win the match.
