Hello everyone, and welcome back to another semester as a USM Husky! As they say in Mamma Mia, “Here we go again!” My name is Jared Lennon, and after my first year with The Free Press last year, I have now returned as your Arts and Culture section editor!

I’m very excited to be taking on this position, as the arts are pretty much my whole life. In my third year at USM, I am a recently transferred over Theatre major after being in Media Studies for my first year and a half. I’ve been doing theatre since I was 8 years old, performing, of course, in high school, but also in many community theaters such as the Levi Stewart Community Theater, Lakewood Theater, Freeport Players, and Schoolhouse Arts Center! I’ve also, in recent years, started acting in more film projects. You can see my feature film debut in Rivers Edge (2025), which just premiered this past July, among many short films I have appeared in as well. Movies are also a big part of my life. I always stay pretty connected to current movie news, try to see as much as I can in theaters, and do, in fact, work at a movie theater (You may see me sometime if you go to Flagship Cinemas in Falmouth)! Expect lots of movie content to be featured in our section this year!
The thing I love about the arts is that they bring people together. That’s why I do theatre. You get to spend weeks to months with this small group of people, rehearsing through long nights, sharing laughs, and coming together to make a beautiful work of art. That forges a special kind of bond. As technology continues to develop, art is struggling more to work its way into the spotlight. I’m glad I’ll be able to help emphasize the wonderful arts programs we have here at USM and throughout our community! And you can help too! If ever there is an event or a story you want to write about, you can come join us here at The Free Press or even just contribute a story or two through volunteer status. We’re always happy to give new voices a platform! I hope everyone has a wonderful and memorable semester!
