Not long ago, I was sitting in my first meetings as a new staff writer, quietly taking everything in and hoping I could find my place here. Now, as I take on the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief, I am incredibly grateful for the path that led me here and for the people who made it possible.
I joined The Free Press in September, starting as a staff writer before becoming copy editor this past semester. Somewhere along the way, this paper became one of the most meaningful parts of my college experience. I found not only a creative outlet, but a community that challenges, supports, and inspires me every week. Some of my favorite moments have come from our meetings, where ideas bounce around, conversations unfold, and, occasionally, my attempts at stand-up comedy make an appearance. Thank you to everyone who has made this such a welcoming and energizing space.
Writing has always been something I loved, but never something I planned to pursue seriously. Last summer, I went to a psychic who told me that my great-grandmother, a retired teacher, was talking about how I was pursuing writing and hoped I was studying it. I remember thinking how completely off-base that felt at the time. Now, it feels like an oddly fitting piece of the story. Joining The Free Press soon after and realizing how much I cared about this work has been unexpected in the best way.

Outside of the Free Press, I am finishing my third year as a music major, and I am a clarinetist. Music is a constant in my life. Whether I am in rehearsal, performing, or practicing, it is where I feel most grounded. Music is something I care about deeply, and because of it, I approach everything I do with attention, curiosity, and a willingness to keep refining and improving.
I am especially excited to be working alongside Makayla Morello this year. She brings a level of focus, creativity, and determination that pushes everyone around her to do better, and I am genuinely looking forward to building something strong together. Our mix of experiences often makes us approach things differently, and that is exactly what makes collaborating with her so exciting and meaningful.
As Co-Editor-in-Chief, my goal is to help The Free Press remain a place where people feel comfortable contributing, experimenting, and growing. This paper thrives because of its people, voices, perspectives, and ideas that come together to shape it. I want to continue supporting that environment while also encouraging new voices to step forward and be heard.
I am incredibly thankful to Julz and Caraline for their leadership and for everything they have poured into this paper. Their impact is lasting, and I feel lucky to carry that forward. I am looking forward to what the next year will bring: new stories, new ideas, new people, and plenty of moments that we will not soon forget.
