Hello to the new members of Husky Nation and past friends and allies.
Whether you’re returning for another semester or just starting out. We at the Recovery Oriented Campus Center (ROCC) want you to know you’re not alone. College can be a lot, and if you’re new in your recovery, whether from substance use, mental health challenges, anxiety, uneasy with making new friends or just the first time away from home, the ROCC SPOT is for you!!
The ROCC is all about community, connection, and growth. It’s a space created by students, for students, where you can find supportive people who truly get it. Recovery looks different for everyone, and we believe in meeting you where you are and that every pathway is so different. This is why we offer many groups and activities for our students. It is also why we want and encourage students to: start their own groups, plan their own community outings and find their voice around advocacy for issues around health and wellness. Likewise, all of our events are free and for all. Even if you are not directly impacted by substances or mental health we are sure you know someone who is, a friend or family member. We encourage students to help us smash the barriers and stigma around recovery and join us as an ALLY and meet some amazing people.
What We Offer:
Last year, students organized some incredible groups and events, and we’re excited to bring even more this semester! Some of our favorites included:
Support Groups – A place to connect with others on their recovery journey.
Community Lunches – Free food and good conversation every week!
Mocktail Events – Fun, alcohol-free social gatherings.
Financial Literacy Workshops – Helping you stress less about money.
Movie Nights – Films that highlight different recovery experiences.
We also provide Narcan trainings and Harm Reduction events because staying informed and helping others is important.
We are also starting up a new program called ROCC Guides! We’ve got amazing people on both campuses, working to support students in our residential halls. If you are ever wanting to talk to a ROCC Guide and to find out more about What is the ROCC? here is a list of our ROCC Leaders:
Gorham Campus: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected].
Portland Campus: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
At the core of what we do are four key pillars: Health, Home, Purpose, and Community. Recovery isn’t just about one thing, it’s about everything: a life where you can thrive, to become your very best, to make everlasting relationships and lead a self-directed life emotionally and educationally at its highest level
Where to Find Us:
We have two locations: the second floor of the Sullivan Gym and the white farmhouse at 149 State Street on the Gorham Campus, next to Campus Police.
The ROCC is student-run, with support from our awesome faculty member Chris Corson. Also more than anything, it’s a space for you. So, whether you’re looking for support, community, or just a cozy place to hang out, we hope you’ll stop by. We can’t wait to see you this semester!
