The mission of University Health Services (UHS) is to support and enhance the health and psychological well-being of the University of Southern Maine community through clinical services, student training, and outreach. Our staff is comprised of nurse practitioners (including a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner whose practice includes medication management), a physician consultant, a medical assistant, administrative support team members, and student clinicians and workers. We have two health clinic locations (Gorham and Portland campuses) offering both in-person and telehealth
visits to collaborate with students to attain their personal wellness goals. In addition to managing acute and chronic conditions, we care for our students by initiating referrals as needed and collaborating with other departments on campus to best support our students. For more detailed information, visit us at https://mycampus.maine.edu/group/usm/health-services
In addition, UHS strives to reach students who do not seek our clinical services. Look for us at pop-up events around campus as we attend and host several tabling events throughout the year. You can also follow us on Facebook or Instagram, where we post information on a variety of health-related topics.
A warm welcome to our students! We are a dedicated counseling team that includes our friendly front desk administrative staff, licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, and masters-level interns. The clinical staff provides confidential in-person and telehealth counseling services to our USM students. Additionally, we can make direct referrals to licensed psychiatric practitioners who work with our clinical staff for medication management. We know it can be challenging at times to balance academics with everything else going on in your life. Our caring and talented staff wants to support you in being the most successful student you can be–from helping with stress-related adjustment concerns to issues of anxiety, substance misuse, depression, relational issues, parenting stresses, and trauma, to name a few focus areas. We provide a continuum of care for all sorts of mental health concerns and can help you get connected to many other resources on and off campus as needed. Our main offices are located on the Portland and Gorham campuses, with an additional office on the Lewiston campus. Walk in or call ahead for further information or to make an appointment
