Gorham, Maine graduate student Katelyn D’Appolonia scored four goals and added five draw controls, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers to lead the Southern Maine Huskies women’s lacrosse to a 12-9 season opening win over the Worcester State Lancers women’s lacrosse on Saturday.Â
Anna Byers and Eliza Pattershall each added hat tricks for the Huskies. Pattershall scored all of three of her goals in the fourth quarter to give Southern Maine the lead for good. Senior Cieraa Hill contributed two goals, while senior Britney Hill recorded four caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Emma Morrison made eight saves to earn the win in her first career start.Â
Southern Maine led 16-15 in shots on goal and edged Worcester State 21-20 in ground balls. The win gives the Huskies a great start to the season.
