It’s Baby No Money. The Canadian rapper has been riding a growing wave of internet fame since the late twenty-teens, and released his self-titled album on October 17th. Bbno$ is known primarily for his loud, upbeat, and raunchy music. While his lyrics can often verge on being corny or over-the-top, he balances out his performances with catchy beats and a tongue-in-cheek attitude. This attitude is critical to bbno$’ entire persona. In parallel with his songs, his music videos regularly border on the absurd and nonsensical, featuring the rapper in wack situations, and every outfit from a flame-printed three-piece, to full on drag. He regularly loops other internet celebrities into his antics, notably featuring YouTuber Jschlatt in a recent single “Hot Topic.” This new album falls right in line with what we’ve come to expect from the Canadian. It features some of his most popular songs from the past few months, including the song that introduced me to his work, “It Boy,” along with a slew of new tracks. Some of my personal favorites from this EP are “Bing Bong,” “Rich Sexy Ugly,” and “Pump It.” Like past singles and EPs, this album stays true to the bbno$ formula: fun bouncy beats combined with lines that have you doing double takes like “I call her Dwayne, how she rockin’ on my Johnson” and “She bad and boujee (Downton Abbey).” This album is full throttle from start to finish, delivering tracks that are fun in the most obnoxious way possible, and I think there’s a kind of beauty to music that demands you don’t take it too seriously. Bbno$ is big di… dumb fun and nothing more, and his self-titled album is the best time you can have with your clothes on.
