Jimmy Kimmel was in the headlines last week for his controversial comment on his late-night talk show. Many right-wing advocates began to come after Kimmel for his comment, calling for his cancellation. Discussions around the topic have been a whirlwind of support and disdain for the late-night talk show host. Despite his comments being aimed at Donald Trump, ABC and Disney pulled his show for “comments about Charlie Kirk.” Below is the quote that got his show cancelled.
“The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,”
This quote was rather tame compared to his other comments towards the administration. However, with Charlie Kirk being a focal point in the news lately, the network overcorrected to try to please the administration after Donald Trump’s calls for his show to be pulled. In retaliation, boycotts ensued with Disney reportedly losing $5 billion in market value and 1.7 million cancellations of Disney+ and Hulu. This was due to concerns for censorship of the First Amendment, which is a deterrent for other media companies doing business with Disney. After years of complaints about cancel culture, the current administration tried its hand at cancelling someone, and it didn’t work out so well.
Kimmel’s show returned to the air on September 22, 2025, after only four days of being cancelled. Here is the statement from the Walt Disney Company: “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Maybe in the past Jimmy was funny but that time has past. He isn’t funny. He is only interested in bring as offensive as possible . He is really good at that. I would rather listen to a dog bark than listen to Jimmy Kimmel.
