By Liz Hildebrandt | News Editors
Over the course of last Summer, I spent a lot of time evaluating how I would spend my last year at USM between internship opportunities, classes, and finding a job. Last year, I worked at the Free Press as both a writer and a photographer, and I knew that I wanted to continue my time there. I just didn’t yet know what position I would end up in.
My name is Liz Hildebrandt, and I am the News editor for the paper this year! Although last year I did put a lot of work into my role as a photographer, I wrote some articles here and there, notably a couple of album reviews and some on other topics of interest. I’ve always wanted to be a journalist in some capacity since I was a child, so really I was happy doing anything for the paper. It just so worked out that there was an unfulfilled editor position this year for the News section, and with my added interest in current events locally and around the world, I decided that it would be a great opportunity! I’ll still be dabbling a bit in other sections (probably mostly Arts & Culture), and I’m still taking photos for the paper, so be on the lookout for that too! I’m looking forward to what this position has in store, and I will put in an effort to bring some informative subjects and perspectives to the section. Being a media studies major, I feel that this position is perfectly suited to my knowledge and skill set, so hopefully, that will show through the work I do!
It’s hard to believe that my third year will be my last here, but I’m glad that I’ll be able to fulfill an editor position before I graduate. This being said, I hope the year goes well for all of you, and I look forward to continuing my work at the Free Press!
