Seven University of Southern Maine students have the chance to work for a year as a social media sports reporter for XFINITY/Comcast at national sporting events.
The students in the BUS 415 sports management seminar course entered the contest as part of a required assignment by submitting 30 second to two minute videos arguing why they should win the “Next Sport Social Media” contest, and Renee Skinner, Nate Cloutier, Kelly Dumond, Abigail Weeks, Blain Tully, Kevin Capriola and Brendan Rogers were chosen as first-round finalists along with 43 other contest entrants.
The contest will be chosen democratically. Each contestant’s video is on the XFINITY Facebook page, where viewers may vote for their favorite contestant. The five most popular contestants will move on to their “final audition” at a live sporting event. Voting closes Feb. 19.
In the videos the students displayed their knowledge of sports, social media and XFINITY to make the case for why they should be chosen. Skinner, for example, filmed herself using a number of social medium to discuss sports ranging from baseball and football to NASCAR.
Heidi Parker, assistant professor of sport management, urged members of the USM community to vote for the seven student finalists in an email Friday. “The next step is to spread the word and get others to view their video entry and VOTE for them,” Parker said.
Thank you for spreading the word on our accomplishment!
