The USM women’s outdoor track and field walked away from Bowdoin College with a third place overall finish at the Aloha Relays on Saturday after several tremendous individual performances.
USM junior Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) highlighted the Huskies’ day as she earned a first place finish in the discus with a throw of 117-11, and two second place finishes that came in the hammer throw and shot put with throws of 142-10 (a personal best) and 34-2. Huskies’ sophomore Jennifer Durham (Doylestown, Penn.) was second to Patterson in the discus with a throw of 106-3.
Senior Hillary Hall (Waldoboro) swiped first place in the high jump by clearing 5-3 3/4, and talented junior Bethany Dumas (Augusta) continued her stellar 2011 campaign with a first place finish in the pole-vault with a season-high clearing of 11-7.
Other strong performances for the Huskies came from senior veteran Carly Dion (Biddeford), who took third place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:56.32, and sophomore Nikole Robbins (West Gardiner), who scored 3,391 points in the heptathalon, qualifying her for the New England Division III Championships.
The Huskies’ performance also included a slew of fourth place finishes. Senior Erin Garvey (Haverhill, Mass.) finished fourth in the 1500 meters with her time of 4:59.74, senior Vanessa Baird (Dover-Foxcroft) swiped fourth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 125-5, junior Amy McIntire (Westbrook) took home fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-0 1/2, and sophomore Molly Carl (York) finished fourth in the 400 meters in a time of 1:03.53.
The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday when they’ll attempt to win their 12th straight Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championship at Fitchburg State University starting at 11 a.m.
