The Western Connecticut State men’s tennis team continued their tremendous play as of late when they defeated the USM men’s tennis team 8-1 at the Westside Courts in Danbury, Conn. on Saturday.
The Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after taking all three doubles matches from the Huskies.
Junior Troy Pandolfi and senior John Phillips set the tone right off the bat as they defeated USM senior Michael Sarrazin and junior Matt Larson 8-4 in first doubles. WestConn junior Austin Werner and senior Andrew Kelley defeated USM sophomore Jon Sproul and senior Zach Caron 8-6 in second doubles, and freshmen Brian Bucknam and Ryan Klem took care of USM freshman Corey Dyke and Christopher G. Ross 8-3 in third doubles.
The singles matches were hardly different, as WCSU took five of six from the Huskies. Pandolfi defeated Caron 6-0, 6-0 in first singles, Phillips downed Larson 6-4, 6-1 in second singles, Werner beat Sproul 6-0, 6-3 in third, Bucknam defeated Christopher G. Ross 6-4, 6-1 in fifth, and Klem was a victor over Dyke in sixth singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.
Sarrazin was the lone point winner for the Huskies as he beat Kelley 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 in fourth singles.
USM will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Bridgewater State in a 3:30 p.m. start.
