Bubier leads Huskies to 2-1 overtime victory over Gordon.
The USM field hockey team got an overtime goal from sophomore forward Kailey Bubier (Auburn) seven minutes into the extra period to defeat Gordon College 2-1 on Thursday in Wenham, Mass.
The win pulls USM’s record to an even 2-2. USM had the advantage 19-9 in the shots category.
The Huskies are on the road again this week, as they will travel to Farmington on Wednesday to face the University of Maine-Farmington in a 4 p.m. start.
Women’s Tennis
The USM Women’s tennis team recorded their second victory of the season as they downed Gordon College 5-4 in a non-conference match on Thursday in Wenham, Mass.
The Huskies received solid efforts from sophomore Tegan Talbot (Topsham), and freshman Emily Boutin (Old Town) and Sara Moody (Scarborough) in singles action.
Moody defeated Gordon junior Kallie Garrett 6-0, 6-2 in the third singles match, Talbot got the win over senior Jessica Greenwood 6-3, 6-2 in fourth singles, and Boutin edged out Gordon senior Hannah Osgood 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth singles match.
Boutin teamed up with classmate Rachel Miller (Portland) to defeat Greenwood and Osgood in the second doubles match, and Moody joined senior captain Erica Robertson (St. Albans, VT) to beat Garrett and freshman Kyra Drescher 8-2 in the third doubles match.
USM will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they host Bridgewater State at 1pm.
