FP: What is your major here at USM?
CH: I am a communication major.
FP: What are your expectations for this year’s USM baseball team?
CH: This year’s baseball team is going to be very different than any other team I’ve been a part of here at USM. This year we have a very young lineup as we lost our entire starting defense besides four players. However, we have a very experienced pitching staff that has a lot of depth both in starting and relief pitching. If our young players can play up to their ability and our pitchers can pitch as we are capable, then we should have a very successful season. The LEC is a very tough conference each and every year, but I believe we will have another good year and will be competing for the conference championship in May.
FP: What are your thoughts on the new TurfField facility that USM is planning to build in the next few years?
CH: I think this will be a great thing for USM athletics as well as the entire USM community. I’ve played a few times on turf fields and they’re some of the nicest surfaces to play on as an athlete. I think this will be a great thing for the athletics here at USM that will only lead to good things for this school. However, I am a little jealous that this is happening just as I’m leaving USM.
FP: I know you’re broadcasting the home basketball games for credit. How do you like working with Bruce Glasier as a color commentator?
CH: Working with Bruce has been an absolute blast. He’s a great guy who knows so much about broadcasting. I have really learned a lot from him so far and look forward to finishing up the season along-side him at the rest of the basketball games. Sports broadcasting has always been a big interest of mine, and I’m very thankful that USM gave me the opportunity to try out broadcasting here for USM athletics.
FP: Is coach Flaherty the best coach you’ve ever played for?
CH: He most definitely is. I have never played for anyone who knows a game so well. He has so much knowledge about the game of baseball and is always trying to learn more in order to become a better coach. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning from him over the past four years while playing baseball at USM.
FP: How would you describe your experience at USM over the past four years?
CH: My time at USM has been quite amazing. I’ve made a ton of great friends from all different places and have had so many great times over the past few years. But most of all, I have enjoyed being involved with baseball and being a part of such a close-knit family each year.
