The anticipation radiated from everyone in front of the stage before the band came on. As the lights went down, the chatter stopped and hands went up as the band ran in front of eager fans. They picked up their instruments and played the first chord as the fans’ hands flew into the air and they got ready to rock.
Janus, a band based out of Chicago played admirably Saturday night. Their single “Eyesore” has been jumping up the charts, and for good reason. Their original songs and lively beats made for an intense show.
Their album “Red Right Return” was released in September and they have been touring ever since. When asked about the tour Mike Tyranski, the guitarist for the band said, “So far so good! We have had some really great shows opening for the Sick Puppies and the songs have really been connecting with people.” The band had the crowd jumping at the Asylum, and you could see how connected the fans were to the music.
The Internet has been a huge success for many artists, such as Radiohead, who released an album downloadable for free online. However, for bands like Janus file sharing hurts CD sales. Johnny Salazar the drummer explains, “In certain ways it’s good because it is being shared. The bad thing is that record sales are down and as artists we need to create new ways to generate cash flow to support ourselves on the road.” He went on to say, “Above all it shows us that the people who do buy it are true and genuine Janus fans.”
“I am very excited for the month-long tour with Chevelle and Sick Puppies,” explained Alan Quitman, bassist for the band. ” I’m a big fan of both bands and I think it’s the best line up we’ve been a part of,” said Quitman.
If you haven’t checked them out yet, now is the time. The band is sure to have great success playing with such well-known artists. Look out for them in the coming months, they are sure to be popping up all over the place very soon.
