I used to live in Maine and frequented Popham Beach, topless. I wanted to start my topless journey to the beach from the parking lot but I was concerned other beach goers would freak so I would wait until I found a section where there were few people and then off came the uncomfortable top.
As mentioned in the article, I never encountered another woman topless although I never heard any comments of disapproval.
The article mentioned an encounter with law enforcement; keep in mind, most law enforcement officers are acting on a complaint and really do not care that one is topless, although most will not shy away from a “nudity” complaint, after all, they are human too.
Should a law enforcement encounter take place, do not become arrogant, make demands, or threaten to get your attorney involved. Politely provide any information requested, and should the encounter appear as though it is headed for arrest or summons, ask the officer to reconsider taking any action until reviewing the law.
Remember, police do not want to bother anyone who is staying within the law, but chances are good the complaintant is watching how the incident unfolds, therefore, putting the officer in a difficult situation.
I encourage women to use discretion, but do not hesitate to bare the breasts, after all it was not all that long ago when the bikini was taboo.
