PORTLAND — A student was summoned for leaving the scene of an accident on Sept. 17 at around 6:30 p.m. after striking another student’s blue 2006 two-door Chevrolet with her Hyundai in the parking garage on the Portland campus. Police wouldn’t release the name of the student, but identified her as a 21-year-old female.
??The owner of the vehicle, a 22-year-old male who is also a student, reported the hit and run to police. One of the wheels on his car was damaged.
“He had found the round plastic ring that surrounds the running light of the [Hyundai},” said Lt. Kevin Conger of the USM Police. “He had seen a Hyundai parked in the ground level similar in color to the ring found.”
??? After police found the car parked on another level of the garage, they ran the plates, identified the driver, and found her on campus through her class schedule. “They admitted they had hit the car,” said Conger.
PORTLAND — A 21-year-old student was charged with criminal mischief after breaking the barrier arm at the exit to the parking garage at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 after it would not accept his card, according to USM police.? After his card failed to work, a woman in a car behind him tried to use her card, Lt. Conger said. “She suggested he try to drive under it, but it was too low,” he added. “He decided he would force the barrier arm.”
A witness reported the incident the police. Police found the man, who admitted to breaking the arm.
??Police would not release the name of the man because of Maine privacy laws.
GORHAM — An 18-year-old student was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center after falling from his skateboard on the Gorham campus and cutting open his head at 1:16 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. ??
?? ?Lt. Conger said the man was skateboarding in front of Philipi Hall when he fell to the ground, causing a two-inch gash to his forehead. The student then walked into the USM Police station. He was conscious, but complained of blurred vision.
?? ?”He was well aware of what was going on,” said Conger. The student was transported by Gorham Rescue.
PORTLAND — A student who was reaching for his mp3 player as it slid off the armrest while parking his truck smashed into a concrete pillar on the fourth floor of the parking garage at around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.
?? ?The 28-year-old man, who complained of backpain, was evaluated and transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. The vehicle, which was leaking fluid after the crash, was towed.
