The University of Southern Maine Women’s soccer team lost their first game of the season 6-1 against the Eagles of Husson University on Tuesday.
The Eagles got off to a quick start after scoring two first half goals from a penalty kick goal by junior defensive player Caitlyn Butterfield (Gorham) and also in the 24th minute by junior forward Megan Lajoie (Van Buren, ME) off an assist from senior Kylan Smith (Presque Isle, ME). Husson would go on to score 4 more goals in the 2nd half of play with two coming from senior forward Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME). The first, an unassisted goal, came in the 48th minute and the second off an assist from sophomore Katie McLaughlin (Winslow, ME) came in the 53rd minute. The other two second half goals were netted by sophomore forward Alexandra Laniewski (Scarborough, ME) and assisted by sophomore Katelyn Cloutier (Groventon, NH) and Bradford and the second by Smith and was assisted by Cloutier. The lone Husky goal was scored by freshman Catherine Wise (Cape Elizabeth, ME) and assisted by freshman Jessica Gassman (Kennebunk, ME).
Allison Bradley and Kat Rothe combined for 20 saves and Husson’s Rozlyn Peterson recorded 1 save in the 81st minute
