Student Senators resign from their positions
Two senators handed in their resignations at the third Senate meeting of the semester.
Mike Bardin and Sergio Descart had their resignations accepted. . Descart cited time restrictions and other obligations with his position of President on the Board of Student Organizations (BSO). Also, Daniel Johnson was removed from the financial committee due to conflicts within the constitution.
“You guys have a lot of potential to do a lot of things,” Descart said.
The College Republicans were accepted into the Board of Student Organizations. As President of the BSO, Sergio Descart welcomed the Republicans saying, “They have been very active.” Senators expressed concerns over the number who have resigned. There are currently three vacant seats.
There also was concern raised over the absence of a Husky Bucks machine in the Woodbury Campus Center. A new machine would cost approximately $10,000 to install.
Sociology professor arrested on stalking charges
A University professor who has been a faculty member since 1970 recently was arrested in Portland.
Donald Anspach, professor of Sociology and co-president of the faculty union (AFUM), was arrested on charges of stalking for refusal to stop visiting a Belgrade woman. During the investigation police confiscated guns from Anspach, and the city of Portland has revoked his concealed-weapons permit, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Anspach has been released from Kennbec county jail on $5,000 bail and is awaiting a District Court hearing in November according to the Portland Press Herald. Anspach could not be contacted for comment by deadline.
