Men’s soccer team beat by the Rhode Island College Anchormen
The men’s soccer team lost to Rhode Island College 1-0 in a Little East Conference match played Sept. 18 at the USM soccer field. Senior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, R.I.) scored the only goal of the match.
USM has remained win-less for their last four matches, bringing down their record to 1-3-1.
Women’s soccer team win 4-1 against Rhode Island College
In their first Little East Conference game of the season, the Huskies scored three times at just 16:25 into the match played on Sept. 18 in Providence. Senior Liz Brunton (Birch Harbor) had a goal and two assists; the remaining goals belonged to Devin Edwards (South Paris), Julia Cyr (Standish) and Eva Hanson (Warner, N.H.). The Huskies’ overall record stands at 5-2-0. Goalkeeper Mindy Morneault (Eagle Lake) was credited with four saves.
Women’s cross country runner named Little East Conference runner of the week
Senior captain Sara Marzouk (Wilder, Vt.) received the honor after she finished eight in a field of 264 runners at the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational in North Dartmouth, Mass. on Sept. 17. She finished with a time of 18:57; last year during the same race she finished sixty-seventh with a time of 20:30.
This is the second time Marzouk has been named LEC runner of the week.
The Huskies finished fifteenth out of 35 teams. They finished ahead of Little East Conference rivals UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth and Eastern Connecticut State.
The individual winner of the race was Jessica Minty of Colby College. Colby also came in first overall with five of their runners among the first 13 finishers.
USM field hockey team disappoints Salem State in an overtime win
The score was tied 1-1 with two 15-minute overtime periods when penalty strokes by sophomore Samantha Johnson (Mexico) and junior Denise Minigell (Auburn) won the Little East Conference game over the Lady Vikings.
After the overtime periods ran out, each team selected five players to participate in the penalty stroke tie-breaker. USM outshot Salem State through the overtime periods, but goalkeeper for the Lady Vikings made eight of her 15 saves during that time.
The Huskies’ record stands at 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference.
