Huskies zip past Rams with a 2 to 1 lead

The Framingham State Rams never had a chance to catch up to USM’s Lady Huskies soccer team last Wednesday in a non Little East Conference match at the USM soccer field in Gorham. The
Huskies beat the Rams 6-2.

This win brings the Huskies’ record to 4-2-0. They head into their conference opener September 17th against Rhode Island College. Framingham State drops to 0-3-0.

With 22 players, 14 of those returning from last year and eight translates into wins.

“They have a little bit more maturity than last year’s team. They have that added experience playing in close games that they may not have had before,” he said.

He added that there are also many players who can score goals, a “team attack” he called it.

The Huskies took the lead at just 2:29 into the game when senior Eva Hanson (Warner, N.H.) scored the team’s first goal with an assist from junior Katie Else (Conway, N.H.). Senior Liz Brunton (Birch Harbor) and freshman Caitlin Brown (Camden) both contributed

Brown’s first collegiate goal came off a set up from junior Danica Martin (Bridgton). Martin scored one of the two unassisted goals of the game.

USM out shot Framingham State 14-2 after only the first half. Total for the game was 27-8.

On September 10, Brunton, a forward, scored a school-record tying four goals to help defeat the Husson College Eagles.

Quinones said the team played a high defensive line in Wednesday’s game, something they have been striving to improve. The team is also working on staying out,” Quinones said.

What are Quinones’predictions for the rest of the season?

“I can see us finishing top two in the country and going on to play in the post season,” he said.

He says the Huskies’ toughest opponent will be Keene State, who they will play in a conference game on September 24. Keene State remains undefeated this season.
