Demosthenes (di-‘m?s-th&-“nEz): 384-322 B.C. Demosthenes’ greatest oration is entitled “On the Crown.” He delivered it in 330 BC. It was a review and justification of his public life and began with the words “I told you so, I told you so.”

Laura Liswood will deliver the keynote speech for The Fourth Annual Women in Public Life Forum. The forum takes place on Thursday, March 10 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland, Maine.
Liswood holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, a B.A. from California State University, San Diego, and a J.D. from the University of California-Davis.
As director of the Women’s Leadership Project, from 1992-1996, Liswood identified global leadership contributions by women heads of state. She interviewed 15 current and former women presidents and prime ministers, which is chronicled in her book, Women World Leaders. She is also the author of a book on service quality, Serving Them Right.
In 1996, Liswood co-founded the Council of Women World Leaders with President Vigd?s Finnbogad?ttir of Iceland located at the Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C. Liswood is the Secretary General of the Council.
In 1997, Liswood co-founded The White House Project dedicated to electing a woman President in the United States.

USM’s Celebration of the Life and Vision of Martin Luther King, Jr., will screen the film, “A Call to Action: A Community’s Dream,” following the film there will be a panel discussion and reception.

Congressman Tom Allen will speak during an international breakfast briefing hosted by the World Affairs Council (WAC) of Maine. He will talk on the topic “America’s Neglected Mission: Staying Competitive in the 21st Century.” The briefing goes from 7:15 to 9 a.m. and will be held at the Portland Country Club in Falmouth.
