On September 30, 2004 the University of Maine at Augusta Faculty Assembly passed a resolution of no confidence in Chancellor Joseph Westphal and the UMaine System’s Board of Trustees (BOT).
According to an e-mail sent from William Steele, co-chair of the Associate Faculties of the University of Maine System at USM, 50 members of the Augusta Faculty Assembly voted in a secret ballot. Forty-seven voted for the resolution and three against.
UMA’s organization is now the third faculty government to consider a resolution of no confidence in Westphal and the BOT. Two weeks ago the University of Maine at Machias passed a vote of no confidence resolution. In Orono, the University of Maine sent a similar resolution to committee.
The resolution read: “We, the Augusta Faculty Assembly of the University of Maine at Augusta, vote no confidence in the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees of the University of Maine System that produced this Strategic Plan.”
