In an e-mail addressed to the 33rd Student Senate, Gabriel Markley resigned as student senator and parliamentarian, effective last Monday. On Thursday, Senator Asher Platts also announced his resignation online.
Senator Adam Mirmelli has been voted the new parliamentarian. The senators elected Senator Mirmelli during their meeting last Friday.
Markley stated no reasons for the resignation in his e-mail. Ezekiel Kimball, student senate chair, said that Markley had “resigned due to a desire to have more time in which to meet other personal obligations.”
Platts had been serving the student senate for one and a half years.
After excerpts of Platts’ resignation letter was read at the senate meeting Senator Collette addressed the senate. “Its unfortunate to lose Senator Platt, as it is any senator,” he said.
When asked about Platts’ resignatio, Senator Kimball said that “unfortunately for the senate, [Platts] had a lot going on.” During the senate meeting Senator Jeremy Collette
Markley was elected during the 2004 spring election. He served approximately four and a half months. “In his short time on the Student Senate, Senator Markley’s contribution to a range of diverse opinion was invaluable. His experience and leadership will be missed,” wrote Senator Kimball in the e-mail to the Free Press.
The student senate currently has six seats open. According to Senator Collette, the senate appointment process will begin fill these seats during the upcoming weeks.
