As of September 21, contact information for the student senate has been posted in blackboard. To access this information log into blackboard, and click on the “community” tab. Choose the “USM Organizations” link and then scroll down the list to the student senate. The contact information is listed under “Student Senate Meeting.”
Political Author to visit USM
On Thursday, September 30, Piper Anderson, co-author, activist and spoken word artist from Brooklyn, NY will be in Portland from 2-5pm. Anderson will be in the amphitheater of the USM Portland Campus Center; signing books, reading her chapter, “Justice 4 you,” and running an activist training session.? Students will learn how to organize on their campus, learn about voters’ rights and will engage in intimate discussion on the state of activism today.? “Piper is a powerful voice that can not be missed.? She is touring around the country discussing, talking and training young people to swing elections” said Justin Alfond, The League of Pissed Off Voters New England Organizer.
WMPG hosts new civil rights show
WMPG-FM is announcing a new radio series on civil liberties starting on October 4th. “Know Your Rights” will air for 20 weeks. Each two-minute program will explore a different constitutional freedom including freedom of speech and religion, the right to privacy, reproductive rights, and due process. The series will also illuminate challenges to those freedoms.
Free tax cap forum at Muskie
On Wednesday, October 6 the USM Muskie School is hosting a public education forum: “Maine’s Tax Cap Measure: “Understanding the Options,” at 7:00pm. Guest speakers include USM Professor Charles Colgan, who is a former Maine state economist, Bill Becker, Executive Director of the Maine Heritage Policy Center, and Christopher St. John, Executive Director of the Maine Center for Economic Policy.

Environmentally-concious movie in Bailey
On Wednesday, October 13 the movie “Never Cry Wolf” will be shown in 101 Bailey Hall at 6:45 p.m. The film is part of the ongoing “Environmental Perspectives in Cinema” series. “Environmental Perspectives in Cinema” is sponsored by the Department of Environmental Science and funded by the Gloria S. Duclos Convocation.
