After an epic 7 hour and fifteen minute meeting, USM’s Student Senate successfully elected a new executive board last Friday. The new officers filled in for the old ones as they were elected in the following order: Ezekiel Kimball, Chair; Andrew Bossie, Vice Chair; Gabriel Markley, Parliamentarian; Jonathan Read, Treasurer; Keith Foster, Secretary.
Kimball made bold plans for the future, including a pledge to reduce the power of his own position and to renew efforts to champion student concerns. He distributed signed copies of a document outlining his intentions.
“If I don’t stick to these promises, I want you to remove me,” he said.
The meeting included tense moments with former Secretary Sarah Hines asking tough questions of the candidates for every position, and with John Marshall’s a daring, if perplexing stand to hold his Treasurer seat despite a conflicting position as Advertizing Manager here at the Free Press. Those present at the meeting consumed a total of nine boxes of pizza and four bottles of soda.
