Gorham campus to host small business exposition
The seventh annual Gorham Marketplace, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 13 will be held in the Gorham campus’ Field House. The gathering is expected to attract more than 100 exhibits from local businesses. There will also be two stages with local performers throughout the day. Admission is free and open to the public. Progressive Israeli activist keynote speaker for woman’s history month
Marcia Freedman will be giving USM’s Woman’s History Month’s keynote speech on Monday, Mar. 15 in the Luther-Bonney auditorium at 5:30 p.m. Freedman is a woman’s rights and peace advocate who emigrated to Israel in 1967. She has played a key role in securing abortion rights and advocating other woman’s issues there. She is part of an Israeli organization sponsoring a diplomatic solution to the Palestinian conflict. Her speech is free and open to the public.
Friday conference latest event in sustainability convocation
From 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 12, the Gloria S. Duclos Conference on Sustainability will host a conference, titled “Sustainability: Ecology, Energy & Equity.” Speakers include Darren Ranco, a native American who will talk about local efforts to resist environtmental exploitation. Other speakers of the day include Beth Nagusky, director of Energy Independence and Security; Mishael Caspi, Bates College; Ken Gordan, National Economic Research Associates; Arundhati Roy, author and activist; Mark Hays, Natural Resources Council of Maine; and Chris Carroll, an energy conservation specialist.
