What brought you to the area and what do you think of it?
My job as a Sign Language Interpreter at the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf brought me to Maine. I love it here.
How long have you been using sign language?
I learned sign language about six years ago. I had a boyfriend who had a deaf mother. At the same time, a good friend lost her hearing. We took a class together, and that is how I learned it. I have worked as an Interpreter for the last three years, since getting my Associates Degree in Interpretation from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Why did you choose USM?
It was the only state school close to where I live.
What would you do to make life better for USM students?
More parking spaces and no parking fee.
College: Educational enrichment or four-year party.
My first degree at RIT was a four-year party. Now, college is education enrichment, unfortunately.
What is the most significant thing you have learned here?
To pay my freakin’ parking tickets.
What do you do when you are not working or at USM?
I do pilates and run. I hope to run a marathon someday, and have already done half-marathons. My secret hobby is that I love paint-by-numbers.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who hate dogs.
What is your favorite movie and why?
“Keeping the Faith” because it’s just a great story about a priest and a rabbi who fall in love with the same girl.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what five albums or CDs would you want with you?
Michael Boubl?’s holiday compilation, because you always have to be in the xmas mood, even on a desert island. A folk compilation, because it’s what I listened to at summer camp. Bob Marley to get into that island spirit. I’d want some Barry White, because it’s the classic sexy music in case there are any island natives around. And last, I’d like some Dave Matthews, because who doesn’t love Dave Matthews?
What is your favorite color?
Pink.
Where would you like to travel and why?
South America, because it’s a place people don’t usually go and I think there is a lot of culture to be found there.
