What brought you to the area?
“I moved to Maine after my senior year of high school when my dad was transferred here.”
Why did you choose USM?
“Because I love it up here and I want to stay in Maine.”
What would you do to make life better for the USM student?
“Have more classes at the Gorham campus.”
What is your favorite class?
“Children’s literature.”
College: educational enrichment or four year party?
“It’s a “happy mix” of both. It’s the last time in my life I will be able to meet and associate with such a large number of random people, many of whom I wouldn’t have met anywhere else.”
What is the most significant thing that you have learned here?
“To go into all situations with an open mind, and be open to the different
possibilities available to students here. You are the creator of your own happiness.”
What do you do when you are not at USM?
“I like to write. I write short stories and poetry. I am also a photographer. I feel that I see things a bit differently than others, and use this to shoot images that inspire me.”
What did you want to be when you grow up, and what do you want to be now?
“When I was a child, I wanted to be first female President of the United States. I don’t want the job today. I want a life with less stress than that position would carry, and I don’t want the job if it means
compromising my values, and not having the ability to just be myself. These days, I want to write and teach. I have an idea for a travel magazine with a slant. I would also like to teach creative writing to fourth and fifth graders, or English lit. to high school students.”
What is your favorite movie and why?
“‘The Royal Tennenbaums.’ I like this movie because it reminds me of my own family, and I can watch it over and over, and see something new in it each time.”
To where have you traveled?
“I took some time off after high school to travel all over North America. My friends and I would just wake up, pick a place, and go. At one point, I was even stuck in Mexico because I ran out of money. My friends and I walked back to the US in the middle of the night. Even if we had money, we didn’t know if the cab ride was any safer than walking.”
What is your biggest pet peeve?
“People who leave on their turn signals after changing lanes on the highway.”
