Internationally known author to lecture on academic equality
Peggy McIntosh, an internationally recognized author and consultant, will be giving a free lecture in 301 Bailey Hall on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 4:30 p.m. The topic of the lecture is “How Privileged Systems Undermine U.S. Educational Ideals.” McIntosh is a visiting Libra Scholar. The Libra Scholar program is meant “to bring outstanding leaders in education and human development to USM,” according to the College of Education and Human Development’s website. Lecture chronicles mapping blunders
Dr. Seymore I. Schwartz will be giving a lecture entitled “Mismapping of America: An Explanation into Five Major Cartographic Errors in American History” at the USM Law School on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. This is a free lecture and is open to the public. Schwartz, an alumni professor at the University of Rochester, has published many books on the topic, as well as well-known medical textbooks. Call 780-4850 for more information on the lecture.
Free groceries for platelet donors at Maine Med
Maine Medical Center is collecting Platelets, a component of the blood. The process takes about two hours, and donors receive a $25 gift certificate redeemable at Mobil, Olive Garden, Shaw’s, and Dunkin Donuts. The hospital provides movies to watch during the donation.
USM Open House approaches
USM’s Office of Admission’s annual Open House is this Sunday, Oct. 10 from noon to 4:30 p.m. on the Gorham campus. High School juniors and seniors from all over the region will be visiting the campus.
