The third student senate meeting of the semester was peppered with laughter and joking. It was a brief meeting, just under one and a half hours. President Pattenaude, scheduled to speak, was unable to attend. “This meeting was quick, nice and friendly…but don’t get used to it,” said Chair Jeremy Collette after the meeting adjourned.
The first public senate forum, which was initially planned for Monday Sept. 15, will be held Monday Sept. 22 in the Woodbury Campus Center’s ampitheater. The forum entitled “Got Problems (with USM)?” creates for students the opportunity to air their concerns. There will be a forum held weekly in the ampitheater and all students are welcome to attend.
The senate approved the written resignations of Gretchen Chesley, Kyle Bouchard, and Garret Gagnon with little discussion involved. There was some concern voiced about filling the empty senate chairs. Applications are currently being processed to fill the vacancies.
Collette took some ribbing from his peers as he misnamed several senators. At one point Senator John Marshall asked him, with a chuckle, “Are you drunk?” Collette, attempting to maintain a sense of professionalism, moved the meeting forward.
Appointments were made and accepted for openings on various committees including the Violations Inquiry Committee which deals with student violations. The vacant seats were filled quickly after Collette expressed that this was a committee that rarely met.
Assistant to the Dean of Student Life Chris O’Connor was in attendance and reported that there would be a new committee in charge of planning concerts formed and if anybody was interested to let him know. Also anybody interested in volunteering to work the Ani Difranco show in November should contact the Gorham Events Board, he said.
