USM honored in Princeton Review guidebook
USM has been named one of the Princeton Review’s “135 Great Schools to Consider” in the first issue of that publication. The survey of the northeast includes 547 schools in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey. The book says, “USM’s price tag would be much higher if dollars were equated with the faculty’s dedication to the students.” The guide uses anonymous student comments as a large factor in its decisions.

Student Involvement Fair
The Office of the Dean of Student Life is throwing what they are calling the “First Annual Student Involvement Fair” on the lawn of the Portland campus on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and in the Brooks Student Center in Gorham on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. The purpose of the event is to get students to notice the many student groups on-campus. Chris O’Connor, Assistant to the Dean of Student Life organized the event, and said that students are statistically more likely to succeed in school if they are involved in student groups. The Portland fair will feature a barbeque, gladiator jousting, a mechanical bull, climbing wall, and bungee jumping. The Gorham fair will feature an Open Mic night in conjunction with the weekly Thirsty Thursday event and free pizza from Aramark.
Student groups who have not registered already are encouraged to do so with Chris O’Connor at 780-4942 as soon as possible.
