The 32nd student senate’s second meeting of the year was short and, aside from a debate over whether to excuse the absences of a new senator, Garret Gagnon, brisk.
The Senate discussed the desire to improve the Senate’s visibility on campus. Sen. John Marshall is building a suggestions box out of his own pocket. Vice Chair Ezekiel Kimball announced that the senate’s first public forum will be going on as planned, this Monday, September 15 in the ampetheater at the Woodbury Campus Center on the Portland campus. All students are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting with any and all questions and comments for the senate.
Chris O Connor, Assistant to the Dean of Student Life, addressed the senate with good news reguarding student involvement . He said that he sees more interest in student groups than ever before at USM. He passed around the student involvement packets that he’s been distributing, which have an indexed list of student groups. He said he’s passed out 3,000 of these since the beginning of the year.
O Connor also brought up the Student Involvement Fair planned for Sept 23. The fair will have attractions purchased for the Husky Fest last week; a gladiator joust, rock wall, and bungee jumping.
The Senate’s Constitutional Review Committee will be meeting at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, September 15 at the Senate’s home base at 11 Baxter.
