Don’t like your bike? SWAP IT!
The Third Annual Down East Bike Swap will be held on Sunday, April 27th in the Deering High School Gymnasium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bicycle retailers and owners can come to sell used bicycles or cycling related products. Owners of used bikes can drop cycles off to be sold and pick up their money at the end of the event. Retailers must pay $30 for table space and be present for the duration of the event. Alumnus dies.
USM alumnus John James Farrell, 34, died unexpectedly Monday morning. Farrell graduated in 1991 from the University of Southern Maine and became a teacher at Wescott Junior High School. Farrell was also an accomplished musician and played with many Portland area bands including the Sean Mancher Combo and The Jerks of Grass.

On Wednesday, April 16, a USM teach-in will occur in the Woodbury Student Center Amphitheater in Portland. The teach-in will focus on the United States occupation of Middle Eastern countries, and various theories on cultivating peace, U.S. foreign policy and the legitimate use of force among other hot topics. USM Seniors get on board and win big!
U.S.M. Seniors Jessica Bearley and Jessica Nolette won a check for $10,000, plus over $15,000 in local business consulting fees in USM’s second annual business plan competition. Their company, called “The Clothes Line” will feature innovative clothing care products including their flagship prototype, the UB POP ironing board.
