The Student Senate meeting began by the approval of last week’s minutes.
Chair Leah Wentworth was not at the meeting as she was attending another meeting of a committee on which she sits. Vice Chair Tyler Stanley chaired the meeting.
Concerns
Sen. Jessica Roy resigned from the Student Communications Board (SCB) because of scheduling conflicts.
Guest Speaker
Janine Gorham, building manager for 11 Baxter Blvd., was the guest speaker. Gorham noted an immanent arrival of a water cooler with hot and cold water along with a storage bin for the building. Gorham noticed a lack of students in the building and wanted to think up ways to get more students to use the building. Sen. Dorn McMahon felt the building should be used better. The building is also looking for donations of paintings from student groups to adorn their walls.
Old Business
Jennifer Hodsdon amended her proposal for money from the Senate for the V- Day event from $2,000 to $1,000. Hodsdon has already received $1,500 from the Board of Student Organizations. Stanley told Hodsdon the Senate has literally $30 until a check from the University comes in with the student activity money. The motion was then tabled.
New Business
There was no new business
Appointments
Sen. Ben Strout was appointed to the finance committee. Sen. Ezekiel Kimball was appointed to the Constitutional Review Board.
Announcements
Sen. Ben Hoffman announced the SCB now has the first broadcast professional on its board in seven years.
Sen. Joshua Dolby is in the process of getting a USA Today readership for the University, costing each student $5. He is unaware if this is per semester or all year. Dolby is in contact with Craig Hutchinson to work on the details.
McMahon congratulated Stanley on his successful event last week, in which Stanley’s band Sly Chi played at the campus center. McMahon noted that Aramark had to restock the cash bar.
McMahon nominated Dolby as student of the month, which Dolby regretfully declined. McMahon felt Dolby should be recognized for all his hard work. Dolby said the student of the month should not be a Senator but another student. Sen. Anthony Pergola noted he had never seen Ben Hoffman with hair and was excited about Hulk Hogan being back. Stanley thanked everyone who helped in his event.
Kathleen Pease, coordinator of Student Senate Operations, thanked Dolby for putting the Senate constitution in a Word document. Gorham asked if the senate would comment to the students about the parking situation. Stanley noted Sen. Daryl Morazzini is looking to start a committee. Gorham also asked if the Senate advertises when the Senate meeting is held. Stanley said he puts notices on list serves, which mostly faculty read.
Adjournment
The meeting then adjourned. Pergola jumped out of his chair and said, “30 minutes exactly!”
