Name?
Brian Farrell
Age?
24
Major?
History
What was the first thing that came to your mind as I introduced myself?
That I might be too nervous to be interviewed.
What do you want to do with your degree?
Eventually go to grad school. From there I want to teach somewhere, somehow.
Where are you from?
South Portland.
What are you doing at USM today?
I love it here. I’m here so often it seems like home.
What is your favorite thing about classes?
Exchanging ideas with other students. I think I learn more from my peers than from my professors.
What is your least favorite thing about classes?
The limit in academic freedom. Often it seems we’re asked to regurgitate the thoughts of a theorist and not form any ideas of our own. I feel like we’re told, “Use your imagination, just don’t make anything up.”
Do you have any roommates?
Yes, one.
Do you like him/her?
Yea, we get along fine. He pays his bills on time.
Are you a night owl or early bird?
Night owl.
What you do for fun?
I play goalie in a Men’s League Hockey.
What’s the worst dating experience you’ve ever had?
A girl I was dating several years ago actually hit me with my car. Unintentionally, of course. I hope!
Are you in any clubs, sports, or activities at USM?
Honors Program.
If you could start a club at USM what would it be?
Sports clubs geared more toward people who want to play for activity. I really like sports, but since both University athletics and academics are full time commitments, it would be really hard to balance it all out. Its not something you can go out and do for fun or credit. Or if there is, I’m too busy to know about it!
What would make this school even better?
Longer lab hours.
Any advice for USM students?
Take a breath, relax. Oh yea, and switch to decaf.
What was the hardest thing about this interview? Trying to answer ordinary questions when someone’s sitting there recording my answers.
