The Parking and Transportation committee comprised of student representatives, faculty and staff are making progressive steps to make a smooth transition for the USM community. In the months ahead when construction begins for the parking garage, the Portland campus will have limited parking areas.
The committee has brainstormed alternative transportation options and helped develop a public relations plan to let the community know what is going on. The proposed campaign titled, “WE HAVE A SPOT FOR YOU,” will give the community current information about parking arrangements and transportation options.
The committee said the small business program building on the corner of the Surrenden Street and Washburn Avenue will be demolished during the beginning construction period. The program will be moved to a downtown location. The committee proposed the Portland Hall shuttle, Marginal Way or Metro bus are available for faculty to use, if needed.
Sarah Walpole announced to the committee that she is organizing a vanpool program for the USM community.
In mid November there will be a parking workshop at the city hall in Portland to finalize the permit process. The proposed date to begin construction is early January.
