Vandals discharged a fire extinguisher on B-Wing in Portland Hall, activating the fire alarm system, reported police. The same night, another fire extinguisher was discharged on the 2nd floor of Yankee Clipper, but the alarm system did not activate, police said. “These senseless acts place the community at risk by disabling fire extinguishers that will be needed if a real fire occurs,” said Detective Sgt. Ron Saindon. Saindon said he encourages anyone who has information about this criminal mischief to contact USM Police. “You can remain anonymous by using the on-line crime reporting silent witness program at www.usm.maine.edu/police.”

An acoustic guitar was reported stolen from Upton-Hasting Hall. However, on Oct. 29 a friend returned the guitar.
Oct. 26
A student found the windshield of his car smashed while it was parked in lot G-12.
Oct. 27
Criminal threatening was reported at Portland Hall. The case is currently under investigation, Detective Sgt. Saindon said.
Oct 28
Assault was reported when an unknown male struck a male playing basketball, police said. The assaulted male did not want to pursue the matter or press charges, police said.
Oct. 29
An individual reported damage to his vehicle on campus. While driving past Upton-Hasting Hall, something fell from a window and struck the side of the vehicle, leaving a dent. However, police could not find the object.
Oct. 30
A Philippi Hall resident reported harassing phone calls, police said. The case is currently under investigation, Saindon said.
