Lewiston-Auburn College shut down last Wednesday after threatening phone calls were placed to the University.
At 9 a.m., the first call made reference and said “you people support terrorists,” reported Bob Caswell, executive director, media & community relations.
The second call came in at 11:10 and said “it’s all over in ten minutes,” said Caswell.
The administrators decided to evacuate the building, he said.
The Lewiston Police made visual inspections of the building, which took approximately an hour and a half. They found nothing suspicious, he said.
However the state police were contacted and dogs trained to find bombs were brought in. Caswell said the police are currently checking several leads and working with Verizon to trace where the phone calls came from.
“Neither call included a direct reference, but they were threatening enough that we had to err on the side of caution to make sure people are safe,” Caswell said.
