Criminal mischief was reported when students jumped on the wet pavement outside of Phillipi Hall after it had been paved, and then took off running. The workers had to repave the area that had been damaged, although it will not cost the school extra. According to Detective Sgt. Ron Saindon, the individuals have been referred to the Office of Community Standards for a violation of the Student Conduct Code.

The entrance door to the Towers was reported damaged on several occasions. People have been able to gain entrance into the building by simply yanking on the door, making it apparent that the lock is broken. “We are investigating this as criminal mischief,” said Detective Sgt. Saindon. “The lock may have been broken due to students kicking the door from inside, yanking on it from outside, or forcing it open.”
Robert Pawlowski, age 42, was arrested for criminal trespassing at Portland Hall. Pawlowski, whose records list as transient, was arrested for violation of his criminal trespass order. He has been intoxicated and in violation of this order previously.
Damage to a motor vehicle was reported when the owner realized the side-view mirror had been broken while parked on the Gorham campus. Replacement of the mirror is estimated at $200 to $300.
Sunday, Oct.6
A student was charged with a drug violation for possession of marijuana, without intent to sell, and was referred to the Office of Community Standards. Saindon declined to comment. “This case is student conduct related, not criminal related; therefore, I can’t make comment on the issue,” he said.
Criminal mischief was reported when the window panel of the door to the Towers was smashed. Cost of repair is estimated at approximately $200. “The cost of these damages is passed on generally to residents in that building, and can run up to $300-400,” said Saindon.
Monday, Oct.7
Obscene calls were made and messages left on the voicemail of the Portland campus health services. USM police believe the caller was intoxicated, and the messages are not believed to be specifically intended for that office.
Telephone harassment was reported from Bedford Street, Portland. USM police believe the phone call is related to the previous ones mentioned above. “This is part of an ongoing activity of prank calls that is currently under investigation, and we do have suspects,” said Saindon.

Theft of a gym bag was reported at the Woodbury Campus Center in Portland for the second time in a week. USM police believe it is related to the previous thefts. Saindon reminds students and the general public to “take extra care of your belongings because both incidents happened while the victim was sitting in the TV lounge taking a nap, with their bag right beside them.”
