Are you enjoying the beautiful weather we are having?
Uh-huh. Yes I am.
Do you get to spend a lot of time outside?
Not as much as I’d like to. Only because I have to practice for my music recital on Saturday.
What instrument do you play?
The bassoon. It’s a double-reed woodwind.
How long have you been playing?
Six years.
What made you interested in playing the instrument?
Well, I used to play the flute and I played the piano but I got sick of them in high school so I took up the bassoon.
Did your parents play instruments and are they supportive of you playing?
No, I’m the only musician in the family but they are extremely supportive of me.
Are there any interesting changes coming up in the program that you’re excited about?
They are going to build a new music school with all new practice rooms and an auditorium and stage. But I probably won’t be here to see it.
What will your recital be like?
It’s a junior recital and it will last a half hour with 20 minutes of solo music. Groups of other bassoonists will play with me as well. There are two majors who play the same instrument and others coming in the fall.
Any words of wisdom for USM students?
Enjoy what you do in life. Just enjoy life in general and make the best of it.
