To the Editor:
Vacation is supposed to be a time to relax and recharge for the coming weeks. However, this is hard for students living in non 9-month dorms to do.
Non 9-month dorm residents are not allowed back into dorms until 12:30 p.m. the Sunday before classes resume. For people living out of state, this means that they must find a way to arrive after this time and then classes resume the next day. Winter break is the hardest time to do this.
You are given one day to arrive back at campus, unpack and buy your books. The next day classes start and the pressure is on. Students aren’t asking for much, just one day.
A Saturday arrival time would make life easier for many of the residents who are locked out of their rooms over vacation. This is something that many students grumble about, but few bring up in a public setting. This solution could one day lower the stress for many in this situation and allow for a smoother transition between vacation and school. All we want is an extra day.
