Men’s indoor track wound down this season with the setting of three school records at the New England Div. III Championships at Bates College in Lewiston. Freshman Adam Lang broke the 600 meter record for the second week in a row at this meet with a time of 1:25.06.
Junior Darryl Whitney broke a four-year-old record in the 1500 meter with a time of 3:58.99 at Bates, as well as setting a new record for the 800 a week prior at the Maine State meet at Bowdoin.
Jeff Lamirande, sophomore, has made a strong showing all season, setting records repeatedly in the pentathlon.
Overall the team performed well, despite being few in numbers which made placement in meets difficult compared to teams better filled out.
Seniors Ethan Burnes, forward, and John Lauziere, forward, may have led the men’s hockey team in scoring, but the rookies ruled the ice recently with freshmen Matt Collaton, goalie, and John Lounsbury, defenseman, were named to the ECAC Div. III All-East Rookie Team, Collaton receiving additional honors as a member of the ECAC All-East Second Team. With such strong youth on the team, the outlook is good for next year.
The wrestling team continues to grow, with recruiting in full swing. As the team grows in size, there is less need for forfeiture and higher placement in meets. This year’s team has also had its share of injury, with a few of the rookies this year not competing for health reasons. Coach Ted Reese reports that the team next year should be fuller and stronger, and the wrestlers are looking forward to working hard for the glory of one of the world’s oldest competitive sports.
