Name?
Jody Lew
Major and year?
Painting, senior
Age?
23
What’s the painting you’re working on?
We had to draw what we saw on the way home. It’s kind of a self portrait with the colors of this old-fashioned gas station on Route 112.
What are you using to make your picture?
Acrylic and charcoal.
Is that what you prefer to use in your art?
No, it’s just what I found in the box.
Do you have anything you like to work with most?
Yeah, usually it’s oils.
Why is that?
It’s what I’ve been using longest.
How long have you been painting?
Since I was 16 or 17.
Why do you like art?
It kind of gives me an identity.
Have you ever thought of anything else?
Yeah, like how to make money.
What do you like to do besides paint?
I write poetry.
Have you been to any other schools for painting?
I went to Pratt for a semester and Skidmore for a summer session. I kind of know the basic, fundamental stuff from that.
Do you have a show coming up?
Yeah, a spring show.
Is there a title?
No, but I’m going to do it with another person. His name is Jodie too.
Where will it be?
Hopefully in the area gallery.
What’s it going to be?
It’s going to be a series of Chinatown paintings.
Which Chinatown?
New York and Boston.
When did you work on that?
Last summer and the fall semester.
Do you have any advice for USM students?
Do more art.
