To the Editor:
I am outraged over the proposal to increase the parking fee to almost three times what students are paying now. $100 to $200 dollars for a parking space that you’re not even guaranteed to get is extreme, and many students cannot afford it.
USM has many students who have children and families to take care of and simply cannot afford another couple hundred dollars for school. Even traditional students probably won’t be able to afford it. I understand that the University needs to get this parking garage built, and I’m all for a smaller parking fee increase (say, $4 per class taken, instead of $4 per credit hour).
However, the way the plan is now is completely unacceptable and I hope other students will join me in protesting this highway robbery.
