PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Worcester State withstood a determined rally by Southern Maine, to post a 1-0 upset win in the semifinals of the Little East Tournament last Friday afternoon at Plymouth State College.
Worcester scored its lone goal at the 29:13 mark and held the Huskies scoreless for the rest of the game.
The second-seeded Southern Maine team held a decided edge in play throughout the remainder of the contest, but was unable to net the equalizer. The Huskies outshot the Lancers by a 12 to 3 margin and owned an 8 to 5 edge in penalty corners.
Despite the loss, some team members said they’re pleased with their overall performance.

“This is one of the best teams I’ve ever seen,” said Shaw, a media studies major, “We get along so well and there is so much talent.”
Worcester State, which improved to 15-6 overall, is making its first appearance championship game in the four-year history of the event. Conversely, Southern Maine, which fell to 12-8, has been eliminated in the semifinals in all four years.
