Every year, more than 7,500 college students from across the United States pack their bags and head to the Walt Disney World College Program. For the first time, Walt Disney World is coming to USM to recruit students to work during its 100 Years of Magic Celebration.
The Walt Disney World College Program provides students with an insider’s look and real-world experience with the leader in the hospitality and entertainment industry. Launched in 1981 with 200 students from 20 colleges and universities, the program now welcomes more than 2,500 students from 350 schools each semester.
The program couples classroom experience with job opportunities around the Disney resort complex. Available jobs include retail, custodial, fast food service, busing tables, food preparation, lifeguarding, recreation, and transportation. The pay is approximately $6 per hour and rent is approximately $70 a week. “Cast members” gain valuable transferable work experience, such as teamwork, customer service, public speaking, and report writing.
Disney is hosting a recruiting presentation on Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. in the Husky Hut in Gorham.
