If you’ve been on the Gorham campus recently, you might have noticed some construction happening near Philippi Hall. If USM hasn’t given the impression that the arts are important to who this school is, just wait until the new art building makes its debut, which is expected to be in the fall of 2027. This building will serve as a new home for most of the visual arts programs that the University has to offer.
This project, which will cost around 15 million dollars, is originally set to have around 24,000 square feet completed. Remaining space, which equals to 36,000-square-feet, will be used for expanding the building in the future.
Some students around the Gorham campus pointed out that there was a plaque near a tree where construction is taking place. According to the arts department, when asked about it, it was an old fraternity plaque and will be moved to a different location.
Even though the construction is still a fairly new addition on the campus, they have already made really good progress on the building.
